Forest life is followed from a distance / day

While geographers are stereotypically common to think about those who prefer to mirorze and forests rather than sit at the computer, Linda toča admits that they have always been interested in the technology, data acquisition, processing and analytics, and in particular the remote methods of environmental and land science. After solid studies and work experience years abroad, she is currently head of geospatial research in Estonian climate technology company Arbonics. This new company brings together landowners with companies ready to reduce their own environmental impact, paying for carbon attraction in the forests. « We do not want to go against the usual forestry, but we offer an alternative – there are other options to do with our forest to make income, » explains Linda. Work ArbonicsWhat she, like many colleagues, has made it remotely, has become another argument for Linda to move back to Latvia with her spouse.

In the world of cards

During school, Linda gave up and liked everything, so it was difficult to choose who to focus on. « However, writing a math test for me, however, seemed to me easier than in the essay in literature, » Linda remembers. In the 12th grade, at the UL event, in a student shoe, where students can shadow students, one day followed both the geography and the students of the environment. The everyday life of the future geographer seemed more exciting, and Linda began to study geography.

The studio was very enjoyed, but also made it possible to conclude that the technology side – geographical information systems, remote, software – seemed more attractive. Linda found a continuation of education in the professional graduation of RTU geomatics. Already during his undergraduate, she studied for half a year at the University of Norwegian Science and Technology in the Erasmus program, later in the shortest students’ exchange in France and Spain, but went to Italy. « I realized that international experience is a big cool thing. »
