For the Apathy of the Ministry of Interior and the anger of the people
The girl, whose parents reported that she had disappeared on April 26, was found strangled after the 17-year-old accused of the murder pointed to where her corpse was discovered. The funeral was on May 2, and the head of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Haskovo Ivan Rasokov deposited his resignation requested by the Minister of the Interior.
Rasokov’s reply that Magdalena Ruseva was not abducted, but escaped from home, blown up dissatisfaction. He tried to get out with the explanation that his statement was an operational production, but it didn’t work.
The mistaken public communication is not the only problem with the Ministry of the Interior that is not the first time the outbreak of public energy. Behind it is a deeper one – the Ministry of the Interior has become a registrar of cases of violence and threats to the life and security of citizens. |
And the sentences that the perpetrators receive are increasingly diverging with the sense of fair punishment.

Where is justice
« We forgot Siana, it’s time for Magdalen! », It can be read on social networks. Only days ago, citizens wore posters labeled « We have no more children to kill! » Due to the death of a 12-year-old girl on a deadly section that has not been repaired for years. Previously, Plovdiv residents came out in front of the City Court for the low sentence imposed on the brutally abused 5-year-old Adrian.
Last year, several thousand people have gathered in front of the police in Targovishte to protest to reveal the truth about the death of a 24-year-old motorcyclist Momchil Georgiev. And on May 2, citizens protested in Stara Zagora for protesting the court’s decision to release a 38-year-old man accused of BGN 1500. Pornographic materials with children were found on his laptop, incl. And photos with pornographic content of a child of visible age no more than 4 years.
There are increasing cases where people, abused by the lack of justice and deafness of the institutions, are protesting – the only way to be heard. But the protests do not solve systemic crashes, albeit under civil pressure, officials or police officers resign. |
Such were filed in the case of a 58-year-old former wrestling champion Plamen Penev in Stara Zagora. Initially, the Interior Ministry tried to conceal the case, defining it as a « ridiculous incident », but after public pressure and media publications, resignations were reached. Nothing more.

The staff selection and appointments to the Ministry of Interior, as well as in the state agencies, is subordinated to party interests. In party selection, it does not matter professional and career development, but loyalty and whether it will do services to the political force that has raised the respective figure.
Political accounts – more important than the lives of citizens?
It is no accident that police bosses have been replaced by any new government, whether regularly or officially, especially before elections. In the midst of an election campaign, such as the one for the June 9, 2024 elections, Ivan Rasolkov received his appointment as head of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Haskovo. The order issued in May was signed by the then Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, today MP from MRF-New Home. His current resignation is likely to lead to another position, such is the practice in the Ministry of Interior. Another one will come in place whose selection mechanism will be no different and will play the same number with « operational combinations ».
The Ministry of the Interior is not in crisis, it is a symptom of a larger crisis in a country where political accounts have a greater burden than the life and security of its citizens. |
And when people stop believing that the institutions are their shield, they will no longer throw tomatoes but stones.
