For false information, the CVK deputy candidate applies probation supervision / day
The information available to LETA indicates that the accused is Jānis Straumītis. He entered the 14th Saeima election from the political party « Power of Power », and in 2024 in the European Parliament elections from the « Association of Jaunlatvians ».
The sentence imposed by the prosecutors is satisfying, so he does not intend to ask for a full judgment.
The accused, through his signature in the questionnaire, confirmed the truthfulness of the information to be submitted and the candidacy requirements, but later turned out to be criminalized in Germany, which prevents candidate.
Thus, the person deliberately provided the Central Election Commission (CEC) false information.
In accordance with the requirements of regulatory enactments, the Saeima elections cannot apply for candidates and the Saeima cannot be elected by persons who have been punished for intentionally committing criminal offenses, except for persons who have been rehabilitated or whose criminal records have been deleted or removed.
The person did not plead guilty to the court and, in his opinion, abroad, he was illegally convicted. European Union legislation and international cooperation between the Latvian state provide for the recognition of other national judgments in criminal matters, so the legal consequences of a person in Latvia may also lead to criminal offenses in other countries.
The accused has retained the appropriate security measure – notification of the change of residence, and an additional security measure – a ban on leaving the country.
