Those who become unemployed will receive more benefits from January to 500 euros gross during the first three months. But after a year, the unemployment benefit for most people falls sharply, sometimes even under the living wage. Anyone who is still unemployed after a year and has no children loses the most, unless he has worked for a long time, HLN writes Thursday.

As is known, the government at the front limits unemployment benefits to a period of two years. But within that period, the government is working on the amounts and conditions. The way in which that will happen is explained in the Program Act.

If you are just unemployed, your unemployment benefit today is in principle 65 percent of your wages, albeit with a limit. The government increases that maximum amount in the first three months of unemployment to almost 105 euros gross per day. An unemployed person can get a maximum of 2,719 euros per month, almost 500 euros gross more than today. To do something for the lower incomes, the benefits for the lowest wages in the first six months are increased by 10 percent.

After three months you fall back on 60 percent of your wages instead of 65 percent. The maximum amount is also increased here, with 11.5 euros gross per day more compared to today. After 6 months, the maximum amount is no longer increased.

Between 1 and 2 years of unemployment, the benefit falls back on a fixed amount. If cohabiting with a child is charged, it is a unemployment benefit of 1,794 euros per month: around 20 euros less than today. For cohabitants without a family, this is a significant decrease: they can lose between 312 euros and 450 euros gross every month. A single person can lose gross up to 171 euros. There are some exceptions.

After two years, the benefit will fall unless you belong to an exception group.
