Expert in campaigns and elections, electoral behavior and political psychology, Costas Panagopoulos, professor of political science at Northeastern University (Boston, Massachusetts), returns to the difficulties encountered by the Democratic Party to exist in the face of the Trump administration. And to decide to follow, for the next electoral deadlines.
Why does the democratic opposition seem so weak?
The strategy seems to be sitting behind the scenes and waiting to see what is going on, hoping that the Republicans are self -destructing, that the Trump administration makes fatal errors, and then pulls together. This method is not very effective: even if the republican party would come to implode, voters would always need an alternative vision to which adhere. And it is very difficult to achieve this if the Democratic Party does not take a strong proposal. It therefore seems that Democrats are morfond today, without effective communication strategy. They need two essential things: a message, and messengers. For the moment, there does not seem to be a coherent and constant message which enters the conscience of the electorate, nor a messenger or small group of messengers who transmit this message to the public. There is only one mixture of messages presented by a series of messengers who do not necessarily offer a unified and consistent alternative
