Food with the ability to prevent burns from ultraviolet radiation
Care and beauty
When the days become long and warm, we look for salvation in nature, shade, cold drink and beach. If we are exposed to the sun with a very high UV index, we run the risk of burning, even if we follow some protection tips. The skin is what protects us from external influences, and if we are too long in the sun, say while enjoying the pool or at sea, we are at risk of burns and cancer.
It has been shown that certain nutrients such as antioxidants – vitamins C and E and mineral selenium – have the ability to prevent or even to some extent to help heal the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. By regularly consuming foods rich in these vitamins you will help your skin not burn so easily and easier to heal if that happens. Do not expect a miracle – to replace skin care products with your diet, but by combining balanced, proper nutrition and protective products, you will do the best for your skin health. A study was recently conducted in Germany to investigate the impact of consuming olive oil and tomato puree as part of a regular diet on the impact of skin protection from sunny UV rays. Both foods are rich in antioxidants, olive oil with phytonutrients and tomato puree with lycopene and phenols. It has been found that respondents who consumed food with the aforementioned antioxidants had 35 percent less skin redness exposed to UV radiation than the control group that had a normal diet.
