Food price compromise / day should be achieved

Amendments to the Saeima, which is part of the food price reduction plan prepared by the Ministry of Economics, is not falling in the Saeima. It is understood that traders are strongly opposed to several amendments, such as the determination of a uniform mark -up, reducing the payment period for fruits and vegetables, increasing the fine from the turnover of traders. Inara Shure, Chairman of the Council of the Latvian Food Enterprises (LPUF), also says that these amendments certainly cannot reduce food prices – they are not for it. But then the question is – what to reduce prices at the expense? There are many comments and opinions on these amendments to all parties.

Last year, the Institute of Agriculture and Economics conducted a study, and Inguna Gulbe, Head of the Agricultural Market Promotion Department, points out that it has been scientifically proven that the world’s food prices leave the biggest impact on food prices. We cannot influence them. On the other hand, we can contribute to the competitiveness of our companies, which will be expressed accordingly in the quality and price of the products. The more produces, the cheaper one unit costs.
