FLUROUTE: Again Monday protest at the airport
After the announcement of new flight routes, citizens’ initiatives want to demonstrate again at Frankfurt Airport on Monday. The alliance of citizens’ initiatives against airport expansion – for night flight ban (BBI) is calling for protest in Terminal 1 on June 16.
« Without regard for the people concerned, Fraport has announced that the airport region, regardless of the climate and environment, has announced that the daily starts and landings have to be increased and redistributed to the lugluging movements, which would also affect many, » it said.
The airport operator Fraport and German air traffic control had announced the planned changes last week, triggering protests in the municipalities concerned. According to the plans, more departures should in future lead over the Taunus, which would relieve the urban areas of Mainz and Wiesbaden.
The alliance is an association of more than 80 initiatives. The demo is under the motto « Air traffic – less has to be flown! »
The alliance had organized hundreds of Monday demos at Frankfurt Airport in 2011 since the opening of the Northwest State Railway. The protests were suspended when there were hardly any flights due to the Corona pandemic.
