« Flooded » customs with dinars, pounds and « monkeys » – what the AADE’s controls revealed

Intensive controls on airports, ports and land borders across the country are continuing from the Customs Services of the Independent Public Revenue Authority, with remarkable successes in the battle against smuggling and illegal distribution of products.

As stated in the relevant announcement of AADE, using new digital media, X ray radiography machinery and specially trained dogs, targeted actions are being carried out to tackle the illegal trafficking of cash, tobacco products, alcohol, alcoholic beverages.

Seizures

Indicatively, the Customs Auditors of AADE in the first quarter of 2025 seized in total:

• 779.310 €, $ 142,535, $ ​​25,000 Australia, 920 Sekel Israel, 6,915 Leva Bulgaria, 849,015 pounds of Turkey, 9,000 pounds of England, 97,000 Serbian dinars, 11,050 NMK dinars, 1,550,000 Iraqi dinars, 129,000 Iraqi dinos 29.250 Ukraine Cribna, checks worth 37,316 €, checks worth 4,779,261 pounds of Turkey, 39 gold pounds worth 113,258 € and 1 gold rod

B. smuggled tobacco products

• 8,700 pieces of cigarettes and 55 kg of fine smoke for handmade cigarettes found in parcels for export for Great Britain through courier company.
• 404.200 pieces of cigarettes in checks in the temporary deposit warehouse. Specifically:

  • 400,000 pieces in 40 cartons arriving from Thailand via Qatar.

5,680 pieces of cigarettes and 1,200 gr tobacco were found and seized at the Patras Customs Office in popular markets in the Municipality of Patras.

5,200 pieces of cigarettes were found and confiscated at the Castanes Customs.

At the Evzone Customs, vehicles were found on their entrance to the country with the help of « Boika » and « Aria » detectors hidden in various parts of the vehicles and in the luggage of passengers 72,310 pieces of cigarettes, 5.43 kg tobacco and 2,200 bars.

At the Garden Customs Office with the help of the « Magnum » detector, they were found in vehicles when entering the country, hidden in various parts of the vehicles and in passenger luggage, 94,660 pieces of cigarettes, 14 kg tobacco and 2,400 rods.

50,840 pieces of cigarettes and 1,600 grams of smoke were found and confiscated at the Doeirani Customs Office with the help of the « Vuka » dog.

C. Illegal alcoholic products and distillation equipment

At the Evzones Customs Office by vehicles when entering the country, 20 lt of distillation product were found and confiscated.

During the control of the Mytilene Customs to a truck that arrived at the port with a passenger ship, 200 lt of alcoholic distillation product were found. There were no legal purchase documents or distillation permit for the product and seized as a product of smuggling while samples were sent to the Mytilene Chemical Service.

At the Customs Office of Kavala, from checks carried out, 39.5 lt of alcoholic beverages were found and seized and a breeze without a number of general register.

a) 1,820 packages of 50ml medicine to treat joint pain. This is a non -approved pharmaceutical formulation without marketing authorization in Greece.

The Evzonean Cultural Customs attempted to illegally introduce hygiene and metal brackets illegally in the country.

At the Garden Customs Office in checks carried out that passengers of IX and bus vehicles attempted to import to the country:

• 3,359 clothing and footwear of Turkish origin
• 1.218 Pieces of Veterinary Items

• 15 kg of cocaine in a duba passenger luggage, arrested.

H. Other customs offenses

In ex -post inspection carried out by a company by the Customs Audit Service (ELIT), Attica, an attempted attempt to import goods as EU products was found. For the purpose of exempting VAT amounting to € 35,800.
