Nine people aboard a Boeing 737 were injured on the evening of Wednesday 4 June after a Ryanair flight offered by Berlin and directed to Milan Malpensa was forced to make an emergency landing in the south of Germany on Wednesday evening due to strong turbulence caused by a storm.
Take -off
The Flight FR8 had taken off from the airport of the German capital at 7.38 pm with 179 passengers and six crew members, as confirmed by the tracing sites of air movements. Around 8.20 pm – according to the first information collected – the aircraft would end up in the midst of a disturbance with consequent turbulence on board that would last a few seconds.
The budget
According to the German police eight passengers and a crew member were injured. Three of them were transported to the hospital: a two -year -old boy suffered bruises, a woman suffered a head injury and another passenger complained of back pain. It is not clear whether the injured had connected the seat belts at that moment or not.
The commander’s decision
At that point the commander asked for the safety landing that took place in Memmingen, 115 kilometers west of Munich at 8.45 pm. According to the German newspaper Faz the German meteorological service (DWD) « is investigating a suspicious Tornado ». Some villages, the local firefighters explain, would have been « small air trumpets ».
The note of the carrier
« The Flight FR8 from Berlin to Milan on June 4 was diverted to Memmingen following turbulence in flight, » explains Ryanair in a note. «The commander requested medical assistance and the plane landed regularly. To guarantee passengers to reach the final destination as soon as possible, an alternative transport from Memmingen to Milan was organized, as well as a replacement flight the following morning ».
