Flemish amateur photographer shoots a unique image: « Glad that I can send positive news into the world with my photos » (Lille)

With beautiful images of the Noorderlicht, a meteorite rain or ice crystals, Bart Medaer has already conquered a lot of hearts in recent years. The Limburg chemist who lives in the Kempen Gierle has surpassed himself again on Sunday evening with a unique image of a Boeing who seems to be flying before the moon. The plane is very sharp opposite the clear moon.

The photo is a bit reminiscent of the iconic image from the film He From the main characters on a bike next to the moon, but the photo of Bart Medaer was not edited. « I have been taking pictures of the full moon at home for a few days. On Sunday at 11 pm I saw the moon very clearly on the horizon and I decided to make a new series, » says Bart Medaer proudly.

« It was not possible to see the craters because the moon was well lit. But suddenly I saw an airplane fly past the moon in my display. That was a fantastic moment and really pure coincidence, a Lucky Shot. You see the plane very sharply in the picture. I will definitely insert this image. »

The amateur photographer emphasizes that the unique photo was certainly not edited and that he did not use AI. « I only used my camera with a 600 mm zoom lens. I had seen such a photo, but I myself have never succeeded. And then certainly not at night because you don’t see the plane coming like during the day. Then you can prepare a little and hope that the plane will fly just before the sun, » explains Bart Medaer.

« It is normal for you to get both the plane and the moon so sharp. From a certain distance it doesn’t matter. The moon was also so clear that the shutter speed of my device was very short. »

Bart Medaer is not certain, but he suspects that the plane in question had just taken off from the airport in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, not so far from Gierle. Above the nose of the device you can also see the Tycho crater on the moon. That is one of the most famous impact craters of the moon, named after a Danish astronomer. The crater has a diameter of 85 kilometers and a depth of 4,850 meters and is clearly visible at full moon.

« I am especially happy that I can also send positive news into the world with my photos, » says the photographer. « My hobby started when I saw the Northern Lights five years ago, but as the only one in the company had no camera with me. I then purchased a camera and started photographing nature. In the meantime I go north every year for the Northern Lights. As a chemist I am strongly interested in Crystals.
