Flavio Cobulli wins the tournament from Bucharest ATP 250

In Bucureștiul Rece, a few degrees over zero and with Lapovița, which characterized the morning described by himself on social networks, Flavio Cobulli won 6-4, 6-4 at the end of a match that lasted an hour and 46 minutes of play.

This is the first ATP title for the twenty-two-year-old Italian in his second final, after the one he lost in Washington in 2024 against Sebastian Korda. The Romanian tennis player becomes the first Italian to celebrate in Bucharest, a tour in which Gaudenzi, Vollandri and Fognini stopped at just one step.

A title coming after a complicated start of season. Before Bucharest, Cobulli had managed to win only two matches in the United Cup. These two successes were followed by a negative series of 8 consecutive ATP defeats. With this success the Italian returns to the Top 40, at position 36, while Baez wins 3 positions, reaching 33rd place. For Argentinian was the eleventh of his career (he boasts 7 titles), the second of 2025 after the one he won in Rio de Janeiro in February last year.

In the first set, Flavio Cobulli plays aggressively, opens the field with the service or the forehand to the right and then very quickly sends on the opposite side and makes points. The tennis player born in Florence manages his turn well at work and closes the set with authority, despite the fact that he played only 40% of the first servants, won 75% of the balls. What made the difference was his greater aggressiveness and accuracy. Unfortunately, Baez, in the second part of the set, has not found effective solutions to put it in difficulty in Italian.

In the second set, the desire to close the match makes Cobullli risk too much and at 5-3 misses 3 match balls. The score reaches 5-4, again loses another 3 match balls, and only the 7th manages to put an end to the final.

After an hour and 47 minutes, Flavio Cobullli is the new champion in Bucharest.

He receives the Tiriac Open trophy from Ilie Nastase. It provides for a brilliant, top10 future.
