More than four in ten (41 percent) see Flanders as a « very attractive » destination for a short trip, compared to 31 percent in 2021. One in three is effectively considering traveling to Flanders one of the following years. For longer vacations, that intention is 29 percent.
The investigation was conducted at the end of last year with 13,000 travelers from twelve European countries and the United States. More than nine in ten (91 percent) had already heard of Flanders, or of a Flemish city. At the previous poll in 2021 there were a little more (93 percent): the decrease is mainly due to Germany and the United Kingdom.
The most famous cities are Brussels, Bruges and Antwerp. Foreigners spontaneously associate Flanders with the historic cities, art and artists, beer and war heritage. Names such as Peter Paul Rubens, Jan van Eyck, Eddy Merckx and Pieter Bruegel often pop up as well -known figures.
The attraction of Flanders is mainly in the rich range of culture, heritage, beautiful landscapes and gastronomy, according to the survey. Flanders is also seen as a safe and hospitable destination, with residents who are experienced as respectful, culturally pride and multilingual.
The greatest enthusiasm is with travelers from neighboring countries, Spain and Italy. Scandinavians are slightly more careful, but the image of Flanders is also positive there.
