In Nevele, part of Deinze, a major accident happened on the E40 towards Ghent on Wednesday morning. Five vehicles were involved. A medical helicopter had to come to the scene.
The difficult traffic situation started on Wednesday morning on the E40 from Ostend to Ghent near Drongen. There was a head-tail collision between two cars on the left-hand lane around 8.00 am. That accident could be handled quickly, but there was a traffic jam. « And it is in the context of that file that another accident happened in Nevele near the entrance and exit complex, » says Peter Bruyninckx of the Flemish Traffic Center. “There are five cars involved and the damage is very large. A medical helicopter also had to be on site because there (around 9 a.m., ed.) Another person had to be taken from a car. »

The medical helicopter was able to leave around 9.15 am. “The person was taken away and the injuries would be better than expected. We are not talking about an accident with very serious injury, as it was thought first, « says Bruyninckx.
The road is completely blocked in Nevele. And the nuisance will also take some time. “Now that the helicopter has left, an attempt is being made to create a passage as soon as possible via the service road on the entrance and exit complex. But all the traffic of three lanes must then go through. That will be a funnel. So keep in mind that we have a difficult situation there. »
The Flemish Traffic Center currently has no prognosis about when the inconvenience of the track will be. “Four of the five cars must be towed. How long that will take is not certain. The emergency services will try to create a passage on the right -wing lane as quickly as possible. ”
