First two arrests made after riots on Boulevard Scheveningen

In the investigation into the disturbances on the Boulevard of Scheveningen, two young people were arrested. That reports The police Thursday. The police expect that more arrests will follow soon, because there are still several suspects in the picture.

It is a 17-year-old boy from Rotterdam and a 16-year-old boy from The Hague. The oldest is suspected of destroying a police car and van; The other suspect of open violence against the police.

The riots were created on Thursday evening, when hundreds of young people fought each other in the vicinity of the Kurhaus. The mobile unit (me) had to intervene. The rioters later turned against the police and pelted the ME with stones, bicycles and glass, among other things.

Why the violence broke out is not yet clear. According to a police spokesperson, different groups had threatened each other via social media. As a result, an estimated 100 to 300 young people gathered for the fight.
