First spin -off at Senate’s fraction BBB: Eric Kemperman will continue alone
At the BBB, with sixteen seats the largest fraction in the Senate, a spin -off is taking place for the first time. Senator Eric Kemperman announced on his fellow party boards by app on Monday evening that he is leaving the group. However, he does not leave the Senate, Kemperman continues as a one -man group. Coalition parties PVV, VVD and BBB thereby lose a seat in the Senate, where they already had no majority. NSC has no senators.
Kemperman appoints on Monday evening in a written statement NRC that he recognizes ‘less and less’ in ‘the substantive choices and conduct of the BBB’. « For me it is about issues of war and peace, the COVID policy, limiting freedoms, nature and agriculture and the living crisis. »
For Ilona Lagas, chairman of the BBB in the Senate, the departure « comes as a thunderbolt in clear sky. » The BBB group met on Monday evening in a restaurant in The Hague, prior to a meeting. Lagas says that at the start of the dinner, Kemperman wanted to make ‘a statement’. « But you don’t do that for a full restaurant, the first couverts have already been served. »
Lagas says that Kemperman has not yet let her know on Monday evening why he is turning his back on the party. « I know he had trouble with the BBB position on Ukraine. He only wants to focus on peace. We talked about that months ago. »
