In Poland, it has been accepted that the first communions take place in May or June, and children start in groups, together with their classmates who attend religion lessons. In the Poznań parish, Jesus looks completely different. The sacrament is accepted individually, during a regular mass in any month.
« In our parish, your child can receive communion when you want – he does not have to be eight years old, he does not have to do it in the third grade of primary school. The most important thing is that your child would like and be ready to receive Jesus, » indicates the message on the parish’s website.
The extraordinary approach to the topic of First Communion is due to the priest there, Father Radek Rakowskiwho wanted everyone to receive a conscious sacrament and willing to co -create a parish community.

Parents who want their child to receive the first Holy Communion in a given year simply report to him at any time. Preparations are carried out in individually and adapted to the situation of a specific family. – We do not have group preparations, stamps collecting or signatures The proof that the child had the first confession or passed the participation in the Sunday mass – says the priest.
So what do preparations for the First Communion look like? – Most often we meet with family at dinner or for coffee and we just talk about what the sense of communion is, why all this and what will happen – explains Fr. Rakowski.

Festive clothing or Alba is not necessary. In addition, the liturgy itself also does not resemble the « traditional » ones. The Poznań priest revealed that often parents are crazy to read, aunt sings a psalm, grandmother brings gifts, and cousins and godparents create a music band that sings during the selected Holy Mass.
– When we finally believe that in the parish we can really be a community that I do not have to control anyone as a priest And check the stamps, then miracles begin to happen. Fear disappears, formulas, poems in honor of the priest disappear, artificiality and stiffness in relationships disappear – says the priest and adds: And the children do not disappear after the white week, they are simply part of the community, just like parents. They come because they want, not, because someone checks the stamps.
