The fire brigade of Zone Rivierenland held a large -scale search in the water of the Provincial Recreation Domain De Nekker on Friday evening. It was feared that someone had ended up in the water because there was a pile of clothing nearby.
A passer -by raised the alarm on Friday, shortly after 5.30 pm, when he or she saw a pile of clothing lying next to the water. That was in a place where it was not allowed to swim and therefore no rescuers were present. The clothing was said to be on a table or couch.
Fire brigade and police did not take any risk and started with a search. Divers from the fire brigade was used to look for a possible body. The police also used a drone to fly over the water and search from the air.
« But a body could not be found. Around 7 pm it was decided to stop the search, » says Elke Wauters of the Rivierenland police zone.
It is also not certain for the time being that someone jumped into the water to be able to swim in the forbidden zone. Nor is it clear how long the items of clothing had been there.
Child missing
It was already the second time at 24 hours that the fire brigade had to turn to the Nekker. On Thursday afternoon a report came in from a missing child, but luckily on the arrival of the emergency services it was already alive and recovered.
