Finnmark – a branch county without management on site

It is with increasing concern that we in the Center Party observe the development where Finnmark in practice acts as a branch county – an area where decisions are made by leaders who are not present in the local communities they will serve.

A recent example is the director of the Finnmark Hospital in Hammerfest who lives in Bergen, where he works in full position as a doctor. This is not a unique case. On the contrary, we see an increasing trend where top executives in public companies headquartered in Finnmark live south and commute at regular intervals – while enjoying high pay, home office and absence from daily responsibility in the local community.

This is not random. It is the result of a centralization policy pursued during the Right’s reign in particular, where power and leadership are drawn south and away from the districts. It is this policy the Center Party has repeatedly warned courage and tried to counteract.

We mean: If you have management responsibility in Finnmark, you should live and live here – not just fly in and out as if our county is an attachment to Oslo.
