Film Film: The post – tribute to the 17 years since the death of Kate Panos
Kate Panou was born in 1927 in Bulgaria but grew up in Athens. She began her first steps at the Metaxas School, when the « aunt-Lena » as they called Antigone Metaxas, believed in Kate’s talent and took her to the children’s theater as a « child-mammary ».
There, Dimitris Ioannopoulos discovered it and gave her her first role in cinema, alongside top Emilio Veaki, who was also the first film of the then newly formed Film, « The Voice of the Heart » (1943).
He continued another film by Ioannopoulos and Finnos Film, « The Villa with Waterproof » (1945), next to Dimitris Myrat. Panou had great confidence in Ioannopoulos and when he left for the US in 1945, he decided to work with other producers.
Nine years later and with the return of Ioannopoulos to Greece, he works again with Finos Film for the film « The Road to the Acacia » (1954) with Antigoni Valakou and Manos Katrakis.
Lambros Constantara’s ideal partner
That year, Katie Panou got married and decided to retire for six years. However, he returned heavier in the 1960s, turning 19 films until 1972, of which three with Finos Film.
From her first steps in cinema to her latest films, she was considered an ideal partner by Lambros Constantara, with whom she was shot by nine films while playing together in the theater.
Katie Panou passed away in 2008, at the age of 81
