Film Festival in Cannes focuses on Luxembourg VR-Werke
When it comes to « virtual reality » films, Luxembourg is there. Again and again so-called immersive (co-) productions from the Grand Duchy are represented at international film festivals. In Venice, the Luxembourg film industry even got two prizes last September.
Now Luxembourg is the focus of this year’s Cannes Film Festival-at least in the area of VR films. Probably the most important film festival in the world is organizing a « immersive competition » for the second time. A category in which « Virtual Reality » installations, « mixed reality » experiences as well as video capping and holographic works are shown.
“Virtual Reality” films really feel that real
A total of nine contributions compete for the prize for the best immersive work – one of them from Luxembourg. This is announced by the festival in a press letter.
« La Maison de Poupée » (international title « The Dollhouse ») is the co -production between the Grand Duchy and Canada. The film company Wild Fang Films is involved from Luxembourg. The script and director took over the Luxembourg Charlotte Bruneau and the Canadian Dominic Desjardin.
Outside of the competition, the festival presents other Immersive works and gives five articles from Luxembourg a very special stage: « Ceci Eston Coeur » (A_Bahn) by Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies, « Champ de Bataille » (Digital Voodooh) by François Vautier, « Floating with Spirits » (Tarantula) from Juanita) Onzaga, « Ito Meikyu » (Les Films Fauves) by Boris Labbé and « Ot’s Planet » (Skill Lab) by Gwenael François.
Some of the works could already be discovered at the Venice Film Festival and as part of this year’s Luxfilm Festival in the immersive pavilion in the Neimënster and in the council cellar of the Cercle Cité.
