Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will attend the expanded formatic non -format meeting on Cyprus in Geneva tomorrow and 18 March.

According to information obtained from the sources of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting, which is expected to exchange views on the Cyprus issue, is not in any way that “the continuation of past negotiation processes” or “the beginning of a new negotiation process”.

Under the auspices of the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the parties will be represented by the Parties, the Greek Cypriot Greek Administration of the TRNC, the Greek Cypriot Administration (GKRY) leader Nikos Hristodulidis, Foreign Minister Fidan, Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yorgo Gerapetritis and the Minister of State in the United States and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United States.

Minister Fidan's visit to TRNC

Foreign Minister Fidan recently visited the TRNC on January 8-9 and was adopted by the TRNC President Tatar and Prime Minister Ünal Üsel.

Minister Fidan, at a joint press conference with the TRNC President Tatar, emphasized that Türkiye would continue to develop solidarity and cooperation with the TRNC in every field, that the two -state solution on the island is the only realistic solution and that Türkiye is ready to make a productive contribution to this solution.

On October 15, 2024, a gayriresmi dinner was held in New York with the participation of the TRNC President Tatar and GKRY leader Hristodulidis hosted by the UN Secretary General.

In a statement published by the UN Secretary General of the UN Secretary General after this non -dinner, it was officially recorded that there was already a common ground for the initiation of official negotiations between the parties.

At the dinner, the two leaders on the island, hosted by the UN Secretary General in the following period, were decided to organize the format formatic meeting with the participation of British Foreign Ministers of Main Homeland ”and the third guarantor state under the participation of Britain.

Cyprus issue

The Turkish Cypriot side, headed by President Tatar at a non-format 5+UN format meeting held in Geneva on 27-29 April 2021, announced that it has attracted its support from the two-communal and two-cut federation model and put forward its new vision on the solution of the Cyprus issue (two-state solution).

Within the framework of this vision, which has been fully supported by Turkey, the federation -based negotiation processes, which have been tried for half a century, have not been able to solve the Island so far, there are two separate peoples and two separate states on the island, in accordance with the realities of the Cyprus issue, the official negotiations that will open the way to the Cyprus issue, to open the way to the Fair, Permanent and Sustainable Solution. It is emphasized that it should be registered by the international community.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also called for the 77th, 78th and 79th UN General Assembly to recognize the international community as soon as possible.
