BRATISLAVA. It is not possible to say whether Slovakia is another Hungary, but there are many indications that it is going in the same direction. After a two -day mission of the European Parliament’s monitoring group for democracy and the rule of law, the Belgian MEP and the head of the Sophie Wilmes mission stated this. The mission has been the target of attacks by the Slovak government, the Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok described it as a “criminal expedition” and the prime minister Robert Fico He called the Czech MEP Tomáš Zdechovský, who led the mission, « rental political murderers » ordered by the opposition and anti -government media.

The mission on which the former Belgian Prime Minister (Fraction Renew) and the head of the Libeo Committee Javier Zrozalejos (European People’s Party) have already met the government’s representatives more willing.

However, MEPs say that the events in Slovakia « raises great concerns, as we do not see positive development and do not expect it to change ».
