Festival Aspazija – Queen of Drama will open a dramatic exhibition revenge / day

Aspazija with her first drama Revenge, which tells about the times of Latvia’s slavery, participated in the play competition organized by the Riga Latvian Society House. Despite the initial objections that there were too many dead in the finals, Aspazija won the competition, but it took a long time for the first production. The censor prohibits the production of the drama because « almost the entire play shows a great author of the author’s hatred of the landlords ». Revenge Aspazija reveals the humiliation of Latvians in the times of slavery, craving for the right to decide their own destiny and forces her drama to destroy the existing order in the ruins to build « new life ». The play has been created at a time when Latvians begin to be aware of themselves as a cultural story, 16 years have passed since the first general Latvian Song Festival. « There are two current contexts at the center of the play. Students of the Jurmala Art School were also involved in the creation of the exhibition, thinking about what personal questions today seem to be worthy of protest. The result of the youth work-printed T-shirts with each personal design-will be on display within the exhibition.

The Theater Festival dedicated to the 160th birthday of Aspazija will take place in an open atmosphere for creative search.
