‘Fertility clinic used donated seed for years for more than permitted number of expectations’

A Dutch fertility clinic, Medical Center for Children’s Wens (MCK) in Leiderdorp, has used donor seeds for years for more treatments than is permitted by law. That Research shows on Friday by News hour. Between 2006 and 2017, the clinic would have deliberately created at least 36 mass donors. It was not told to the donors in question that their seeds were used to conceive more than the permitted number of children. Parents would also have not been informed by MCK.

In 1992 a maximum number of children was recorded that could be conceived with the same seed: 25. In the meantime, that number has been adjusted to twelve. It is a guideline that can only be deviated from in consultation with a doctor.

In 2006, MCK started asking his donors if they wanted to donate for a maximum of 25 children, for a maximum of 25, writes, writes News hour. « Due to a shortage of donors, the big question from wish mothers and the desire for several children of the same donor within one family, » the current director of MCK Wouter van Inzen told the program. According to the clinic, a number of children could also be conceived abroad with the seed of the mass donor.

1,200 children

Such similarities were against the rules, writes News hour. Donors tell the program that they did not know, and in some cases have conceived up to 50 children at home and abroad. In addition to the 36 donors, around 900 mothers and 1,200 children would have fallen victim to the practices of MCK. According to the program, the clinic stopped breaking the rules in 2017, but never informed the donors, parents and inspection involved.

Then the program wrote that Klinieken « deliberately used the same donor more often than 25 times » and « interchanged donor sperm without the knowledge of the donor and without clear registration. » It was also possible for donors for a long time to register with several clinics, because there was no national registration.
