The Italian multinational of special cards and packaging pushes on sustainability: the paper becomes waterproof without the need for plastic, bioadesives replace glue, zero impact systems thanks to the biomethane

But the Labels of bottles of wine and champagne Are they recyclable? Not entirely. Or rather: not yet, even if little is missing. Fedrigoni promises to change the « circular destiny » of food labels – from liqueur wine, jams and preserves – already in the coming months. By the end of 2025, the Italian multinational leader of special cards and of the packaging (and specialist also of smart and RFID labels) wants to introduce the 100 percent sustainable labelsmade of natural fiberseliminating each filament of plastic and using bioadesive totally without hydrocarbons. Not easy undertaking, because the labels of wine, liqueurs and champagne (Fedrigoni boasts a world market share that varies between 50 and 70%, depending on the types) must guarantee not to get rid of the years, to resist the humidity and dust of the cellars and still not to detach themselves in the ice basket.

High resistance natural fibers and completely recyclable

Innovation was developed by Papkotthe startup of which Fedrigoni detected 20% and which developed the first high -resistance, completely recyclable and biodegradable natural fiber -based coating on an industrial scale. «This investment has enormous potential for Fedrigoni – he explained Marco Nespolo, CEO of the groupat the Paris meeting in early June with customers, suppliers and designers – we acquired a disruptive technology on the path plastic-to-paper « or the process that identifies innovative materials and technologies for completely eliminate plastic from the packagingthrough completely recyclable paper solutions, but with the same characteristics such as resistance, flexibility, waterproofing.

Fedrigoni revenues over 2 billion euros in 2024

From food labels to packaging and shopping bags the step will be short. Fedrigoni – that for examples it produces, among other things, the packaging for Gucci, Yves Saint-Laurent or Hermès and of all the other great brands of fashion and luxury – has in fact developed cutting -edge solutions on paper plastic-free For any use, from fashion to food, from jewelry to luxury, to personal care, to the restaurants of restaurants and packaging for e-commerce. « Becoming more and more sustainable, in the production processes and impact of the final products, is not an option, it is a growth strategy, coherent with the ESG objective that aims to have 100% of the materials designed for optimal recyclability and recovery at the end of life by 2030 », explains Nespolo. The manager has guided the group since 2018, the year in which the USA uses Bain He took over the company from the founder family. In six years he scored 16 acquisitions, from Europe to China to America, and today the group has almost 6,000 employees in 28 countries and 73 factories and production sites. Revenues went from just over 700 million euros in 2018 to 2.076 billion in 2024, up almost the previous year compared to the previous year, while the operating margin touched 380 million (+12.5% on 2023).

Creativity and innovation, the anti-crisis recipe

Sustainability becomes the challenge of challenges in a period of enormous and sudden shocks for the manufacturing world, recalls the manager: the energy that costs more and more, inflation returns a looming risk, not to mention the « crazy variable » par excellence: Trump and the dark duties. « The solution against uncertainty is creativity – says the manager, who in Paris has rewarded designers from all over the world for the Fedrigoni Top Award 2025the contest designed to enhance the work of those who use self -adhesive Fedrigoni cards and materials to create unique « jewels » – you have to be agile in reorganizing the activity, grasp the signals and anticipate the new trends to renovate production, responding to the request for sustainability that becomes more and more relevant « .
A need green Also confirmed by an investigation conducted by Bain & Company and Fedrigoni on over 500 professionals in the sector: «  » The luxury packaging – he underlines Claudia D’Arpizio, Senior Partner and Global Manager of Bain fashion and luxury – must be recyclable, lightalso to face the growing costs of logistics, e intelligent. They are not the possibility or hypothesis, there are now requirements that customers demand ».

Two « Carbon Free » establishments by the end of 2025

Thus, the production lines also adapt. Nespolo announced that by the end of 2026 there will be the first two plants of Fedrigoni, Cordenons in Friuli and Varone on Lake Gardawill be certified « Carbon Neutral » thanks to the agreements with renewable energy providers and biogas (and to incentives of the government for the ecological transition and the circular economy): in the two -year period the total investment will touch 30 million euros.
