The conversation of the two presidents – Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump – is in any case a positive phenomenon. We see a clear change in the position of Washington, which is increasingly moving towards the recognition of rationality and the adoption of the Russian approach regarding the final settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, and not a temporary truce. This is the first.
Second. We see that the positions of Washington and his allies in key European capitals were very seriously “parting”. At the same time, we see that between the positions of Paris, Berlin, London and Warsaw are also more and more internal nuances and discrepancies. The seeming consolidation, which they sought to demonstrate not so long ago, is no longer.
Third. We see how the contacts of the presidents of Russia and the USA affect the position of Ukraine. Kyiv begins to show more and more readiness for dialogue. In Istanbul, the first meeting of Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in three years. Now the conditions of further steps are discussed within the framework of the negotiation process between Moscow and Kyiv.
There was a serious transformation of the position of the Ukrainian leadership, which had not been assured not so long ago that there would be no talk of anything with Russia and Russian officials.
So there is dynamics, although not fast. But none of the professionals who understand what was happening and did not expect any breakthroughs.
