Federal penalty is coming to those who emit false visuals with sexual content in the USA – Cyprus Newspaper

In the USA, those who share false visuals with artificial intelligence can be sentenced to imprisonment. The new law necessitates technology companies to delete content within 48 hours.

US President Donald Trump signed the law “Take It Down Act ıyan, which considers the sharing of unauthorized obscene visuals produced with artificial intelligence, with a ceremony held at the White House. The law is seen as an important turning point in the fight against fake sexual content targeting many people from celebrities to high school students in recent years.

With the new regulation, the spread of unauthorized sexual content produced by both real and computer on the internet was included in the federal crime. Technology companies will be obliged to remove these content within 48 hours.

The law was the first comprehensive regulation from artificial intelligence.

According to the law, individuals who are victims of such content will now be taken under legal protection at the federal level. In addition, law enforcement officers will have clear legal basis for detecting and punishing perpetrators. Previously, only fake visuals targeting children were within the scope of ban. However, for adult victims, state laws vary, in some places there was no legal protection.

This law also draws attention to the fact that it is the first federal regulation that deals with the damages caused by artificial intelligence technology.

Joint support from Republican and Democrats

Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar worked together in the preparation of the bill. The law was adopted by an overwhelming majority in both wings of the Congress.

Companies such as technology giants Meta, Tiktok and Google, which are supported by more than a hundred non -governmental organizations, also took a positive approach. First Lady Melania Trump also played an active role in the law.

Victim Students became a voice to Congress

The voice of the victims of high school students was effective in finding support in the public opinion. Texas Student Elliston Berry, artificial intelligence and a fake image shown as naked on social media shared on the public opinion to pass this law. Berry also attended the signing ceremony in the White House to support the law.

Berry said earlier, « Thanks to this law, I will not live with fear that those images will come back one day again, » he said.

Responsibility was also brought to the platforms

Some companies such as Google, Meta and Snapchat offer forms that users can request inappropriate content. In addition, some platforms work in cooperation with civil initiatives such as Stopncıı.org, which facilitates the deletion of such content from multiple channels.

However, in the absence of a regulatory law, these collaborations could not spread to all platforms. With the “Take It Down Act” law, legal obligation will arise and platforms will also take responsibility.
