Replacing a gas or fuel oil boiler in a home older than ten years would soon become a few hundred euros more expensive from 1 July. Also on coal, 21 percent VAT should be paid from that date. Jambon does point out that for heat pumps -which heat with electricity -a reduced VAT rate applies of 6 percent.

In addition, the finance and energy ministers also investigate « a tax shift » of the excise duties on electricity and natural gas, Jambon confirmed. That should happen without increasing the average invoice for families and companies, it sounded. The coalition agreement states that the intention is « to promote carbon -free energy consumption, via a price signal that is favorable for electricity and carbon -neutral fuels and unfavorable for fossil fuels ».

MP Patrick Prévot regretted on Tuesday that social correction measures are not provided, especially for people who do not have the free choice about how to heat themselves. The Minister of Finance, in turn, referred to « a series of tax measures » to increase the net wage of the working Belgians.
