It is a bit of a paradoxical intervention if you hide what annoys you. This is exactly what the Electro-Pop band Low Life Rich Kids has now done with the new German wave, the old genre to which many these refreshing newcomers have reduced.

Bernhard Eder, an old hare as a songwriter, and the two young women Mara Romei and Coco Brell present the video for the musical processing of their drawer this week. The song is called « Nndw » and stands for « New, New Deutsche Welle ». In it, textual and musical clichés are mixed up in a playful way. A wonderfully chopped rhythm, delicate minimalist guitar motifs and unheard of fresh unison singing shape the piece. Low life Rich Kids are undoubtedly the band of the hour. Performed by a “heavy rotation” on FM4, they are currently on everyone’s lips.

The two protagonists are mainly actresses. The band itself is the result of the Burgtheater production of « overnight », a piece by Lucien Haug. Eder was responsible for the music, Romei and Brell played. The piece itself was described as cheeky, bizarre and warm -hearted. Significations that now also apply to the band, the name of which also moves out of the piece.

Protest song with humor

For the protest song contest, they wrote the piece « Anti-Woke generation », which acts like an attack on the so-called Boomer generation at the first list of hearings. « The song is often interpreted as an hostile statement, but this is a mistake. » makes Romei Resolut clear. « You shouldn’t neglect the humor factor when listening. »

What is on the song are topics from the environment to free sexuality that the hippie generation has already discussed in the 1960s. « We wrote the song for the protest song competition, so it just had to be a protest. All of our songs are political in one way or another. It was important to us that there were both songs where the protagonists do not deal with the outside world, and which one do. Sometimes you just want to be for yourself, » said Romei.

In general, one discovers that the trio consists of representatives of two generations, something that is quite rare in Austrian pop. With the former Ostbahn-Kurti guitarist Miki Liebermann, the 5/8ERL in Ehr’n have a teammate in her ranks, who is older. But otherwise? Low life Rich Kids celebrate this cross -generational cooperation with Bernhard Eder. « It is cool that we, the Coco and I, Generation Z are and the Bernhard not. He writes the basis of the texts, but we give our mustard. » Clearness mixes with freshness, experience with naivety.

And it is not always the case that the younger ones are naive and anxious. Eder understands that many young people are currently driven by fear. « Just that upgrading in Europe is a lot of fear, » he says. Is it really justified or whipes through social media? It is a combination for Romei.

« But has intensified in that things constantly affect you through social media. In the past, you have actively consumed messages. You bought a newspaper or looked at news on TV. You were prepared for what you might be confronted. Today you are exposed to much negative. »

« Change the world »

With what longing Low life rich kids music? « We would like to change the world. I find it important to write about topics that are branded, » says Eder. Romei also believes that as a band you can do something. « People sing at our concerts and have fun that this can also happen between the generations. From small children to people in retirement age, we all have in the audience. Everyone has their favorite song. If you do that different generations meet, I’m fine. »
