Father convicted of deeds towards boys. He heard 5 years in prison
On Thursday, May 22, the courtroom at the District Court in Rzeszów was filled with silence and tension. 33-year-old The priest was brought by two policemen. The handcuffs were removed before the journalists and the audience were allowed to the room – the earlier part of the meeting took place behind the closed door. When the sentence was finally announced, the accused stood with his eyes, withdrawn. He did not react. Every time judge Tomasz Mucha said « guilty », his face became more purple.
A sin that is located in paragraphs
The case of priest Dominik R. shook the parish in Święcany and public opinion. Young, cordial, liked by the faithful. He was arrested in May 2024, after notifying the parents of a 13-year-old boy. He seemed to be ordinary clergy. Catechist, child guardian, a man who was supposed to be an authority. According to investigators, a second, dark face hid behind this facade.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Dominik R. was to persuade the boys to undress, take pictures of them, record movies, and let « other sexual activities ». He offered supplements for athletes, suggested « checking whether there is no tick », he put weight, under the guise of « performing professional body measurements » and healing alleged health problems. First of all, according to investigators, he used his trust and position. Disturbing behavior was to reach not only in the new parish, but also in Boguchwala near Rzeszów.
Judgment: 5 years, bans, compensation
Judge Tomasz Mucha found the priest guilty of six deeds and imposed a total penalty of 5 years imprisonment. The judgment is to be carried out in therapeutic conditions, due to the disturbed sexual preferences.
Additionally, the court:
- forbade Dominik R. for life to perform any work with children and minors,
- He forbade him to approach the places where children stay
- and ruled a 10-year ban on contact with the victims.
The priest must also pay 80,000 PLN compensation to one of the boys, and two subsequent ones – 15,000 each zloty.
Surprising judgment. A priest still in custody
Dominik R. is still in the detention center. The judgment, which was passed in May 22, is not final – the parties may appeal against it. It is known that the remaining part of the trial – after reading the indictment and submitting statements – was secret. Journalists were washed from the room.
The curia spoke. Cancellation and suspension
Shortly after the priest’s arrest, in May 2024, the Diocesan Curia in Rzeszów issued a message in which priest Dominik R. from the function of vicar and suspension of him in all pastoral functions was informed about the dismissal. The church then declared full cooperation with law enforcement agencies and readiness to help the victims.
