Famous candidates for a new Macedonian judge in Strasbourg

Judges, public prosecutors and well -known lawyers are on the list of candidates reported as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECTHR) who is due to take office early next year.

On the list of registered candidates, according to the portal 360 degreesAmong others are Natasa Gaber-Damjanovska, former director of the Academy of Judges and Public Prosecutors, who entered the final in the previous election of the ECHR judge, as well as the member and former President of the State Election Commission, Aleksandar Dashtevski.

Ilir Iseni, the deputy director of the Academy of Judges and Public Prosecutors, is also on the list of 21 registered candidate for Macedonia’s place in the Strasbourg court, including former Supreme Court President Lidija Nedelkova. Danica Jonova, who as a government agent for the country’s advocacy before the ECtHR, also has the experience of working with the court.

According to some media reports yesterday, public prosecutor Lenche Ristoska, as well as the Criminal Court Judge, Olja Ristova.

Lawyers Jordan Apostolski, Toni Menkinovski and Valentin Pepeljugoski are also on the list of registered at the competition announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. Their fellow lawyers Ivo Savic, Jelena Ristic, Sonja Petrusheva and Natasha Boshkova, who work on human rights issues and cooperates with NGOs in this area, also run.

Judge in the Skopje Court of Appeal, from the Criminal Area, Gabriela Gajdova, is also on the list, as well as her Civic district counterpart Ilir Sulejmani (former President of the Basic Civil Court).

There are also judges Andrej Dimovski, Aliu and Edita Naskova, prosecutor Dejan Petreski and former Anti -Corruption Commission member Shemsi Salai.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade announced yesterday that in the coming period the inter -pace commission set up by the Government’s decision will review the applications and interview the candidates, after which they will approach the process of their ranking.

Then, three candidates will be proposed to the Council of Europe’s advisory panel, in accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights.

The mandate for this function lasts nine years.

Since 2017, a judge in the European Court of the country is Jovan Ilievski.
