Family with baby and toddler escapes car fire with the help of behind Ligger: « Suddenly flames came from under the vehicle » (Hoeselt)

On Saturday afternoon around 2.30 pm a car was flown in a lighter flown in Spouwen near Bilzen while driving. The occupants, a young family with a baby and a toddler, were able to bring themselves to safety in time.
The Volkswagen Golf caught fire on the Red Kruislaan on Saturday afternoon, between Spouwen and Mopertingen. According to the driver of the car that drove just behind the burning car, everything happened very quickly. « We suddenly saw flames coming from under the vehicle and immediately warned the driver. When the car came to a halt, the flames quickly spread to the hood. The driver still tried to get the fire under control with a fire extinguisher, but that did not help. The entire car was on fire in no time. The family, with a toddler and a baby on board, was able to step out of the burning car in time. The East Limburg fire brigade quickly arrived and blurste the fire. The car is completely burned out.
The local police of the Bilzen-Hoeselt-Riemst zone temporarily dropped off the transit road during the intervention. The traffic had to turn around and follow an alternative route. There were no injuries.
