False calls number 112 – jokes costing dearly

April 1st is the day many allow themselves to laugh. However, there are places where jokes are unacceptable even on such a day. Emergency Services Communication number 112 – one of them. Each call here can mean a real danger, and false calls take telephone lines and can lead to painful consequences – late help for those who really need it.

Although the intentional interference of the General Assistance Center is an administrative misconduct, call operators face situations every day where you hear jokes or false messages instead of requests for help. Some individuals, in order to focus on social networks, intentionally call 112 and broadcast their own calls online. One such case happened in October last year.

Then the online content developer with tens of thousands of followers called the number 112 even three times. During the first call, he announced the alleged attack in the Vilnius Jerusalem neighborhood, but the data obtained showed that he was in a completely different place – Viršuliškės. The operator immediately suspected that the call was false and noted in a statement transmitted to the police. This was followed by two other interference calls, when they were pretended to be a Lithuanian -speaking person, joking.

The General Assistance Center contacted the police to provide the caller’s phone identification number (IMEI code), call audio, location data and other information. Following the administrative misconduct case, a person from Marijampolė from Marijampolė was fined EUR 550 at the end of February this year.

Unfortunately, this is not the only time that the characters at all costs are hindering the work of emergency services. There are more people on social networks, especially « Tik », who dance to emergency services at live broadcasts by calling 112.

Therefore, it is recalled that the intentional interference of the General Help Center may result in a fine of up to € 200, and a false call for emergency services can cost up to € 2,000. If the public or the danger of the object of national importance is reported, criminal liability may be subject to even imprisonment for up to one year.

In any case, it is worth remembering that a false call number 112 can cost more than a fine – it can cost life. Be responsible.
