Fairys will invite the serpents in their spells in the spring
Unity with nature
In ancient times, people were part of nature, felt her transformation and applied her life to them. During the spring holidays, they honored the reborn waters: visiting sources, streams, washing them, decorating their shores with Žilvitis twigs, birch trees.
On an equinox morning, our ancestors were swimming in the river flowing east to keep it healthy and pure all year. The custom of ritual washing or bathing is characterized by both Easter and Rasus Festival.
Lithuania is rich in sacred sources, streams, lakes, whose water is considered extraordinary with healing powers. People drank this water, washed it, healed eye and skin diseases.
Thus, our ancestors lived alone with land, water, vegetation and fauna – everything around them felt alive and was part of it. It was not possible to spit into the water, pointing your finger into the sun – it was considered a sign of disrespect.

What are those fairies?
Lauma is one of the oldest goddesses of heaven and earth. Fairys are the mediator between the earthly and the heavenly sphere. It is believed that her people were rewarded with material goods, which was why it was important to agree. Fairys were in contact with the gods of heaven, they were beings of special beauty.
At the disposal of the Laums, the water of the rain and the earth was at the disposal. They took care of the excavation of the lakes, the dam of the river, and also managed the Earth's surface. In its sterling, she brought the lands and poured the mounds. There were some big stones at the disposal of the Laumiai, called the tables of fans or the stones of the fairy.

Home goddess
During the spring equinox (March 20-21 – the beginning of the astronomical spring), the day and night's duration and the day become longer.
It is also a time of storks, once considered pro -state of the New Year. Our ancestors regarded the stork as a sacred bird that protects home happiness, leading to abundance and fertility.
Our holy animal, the serpent, was also awakened during the storks after the hibernation. Our ancestors considered the serpent to the goddess of the house, the guardian of human health, the messenger of God. In various written sources, Lithuania is mentioned as the country of worship of the serpent, and the serpent honoring traditions, which, unfortunately, did not survive.
However, we have an extraordinary mythological tale « Eglė Queen of the Serpents », encoded by the worldview of our ancient culture. The serpents play an important role in it.

Screaming like a serpent
Historical name of Lake Asveja – Alka (Alka – Baltic Religious Shrine). It is probably not for nothing that our ancestors called him so much. It is the longest lake in Lithuania (21.9 km), with some 36, 43 and even 50.2 m deep. The lake is brought out as a serpent that is very much here and they are protected. Since we symbolically melted Asveja's serpents in the autumn of winter sleep, we will wake them up in the spring with Laumiai bathing – symbolically warming up the water of Lake Asveja with our bodies.
Our ancestors felt an endless relationship with the environment, they were united with nature, so the warmth of their body tried to warm nature. It is an act of special connection, care. Body nakedness and contact with the ground were magical. In order to come in, the earth would come back and become fertile, the customs of heating of the earth prevailed: bumps, rolling, barefooting and dancing, thinly dressed, although the air is still cold.
All will be participants
What awaits the event « Laums Bathing »? Most importantly, we will get involved and participate in all activities and rituals. There are no performers of the celebration – there are participants of the celebration. Everything we will do, awaken and greet in spring, rebirth in us, and creating a connection between us.
We will sing spring conventions, play drums, dance around the bonfire, have a stork bread, soup, and to protect our ancestral traditions we will honor the natural disasters. Of course, we will heat the ground and wash or take a bath in Lake Alka.
We will sing contractual with well -known contractual artist Laurita as Peleniūtė. The event is for the whole family – no one will be boring here.
