Failure to follow up and preparedness in the Vestre-Loppa

Open letter to Loppa municipality

As leader of Langfjordhamn Bygdelag, I want to address a serious concern to the municipality of Loppa, and at the same time make the public familiar with the challenging situation many of us in culprit in mutless societies stand in when it comes to lack of emergency preparedness and follow -up.

Langfjordhamn has in recent years experienced several long -term power outages. The most serious lasted for over one week, while the area was characterized by heavy storms, landslides and set boat calls. The village was then completely insulated – without electricity, transport or reliable telephone coverage. Nevertheless, no one contacted the municipality to investigate what it was like.

We ask the following questions:

● Does the municipality of Loppa have a contingency plan for Langfjordhamn and similar local communities in the Vestre-Loppa?

● If yes: Why was it not implemented during the aforementioned power outage?

● Who in the municipality is responsible for following up insulated residents under crises?

● What solutions are assessed when both mobile coverage and electricity fail?
