Extreme storms over Poland. IMGW warns against subsequent threats
At the beginning of June, Poland is struggling with another impact of violent weather. The balance of losses is still growing, and meteorologists are not optimistic. Experts warn and call for preparation for the next hours with dangerous atmospheric phenomena. The weather situation may change quickly, so it is worth following IMGW and RCB messages on an ongoing basis.
Violent storms wreak havoc in the province. Mazowieckie
On Thursday, June 5, from the very morning very strong storms pass through Poland. The most damage was recorded in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, especially in the Płock poviat. Several dozen buildings were damaged in the municipalities of Bielsk and Drobin and in Płock itself – residents reported broken roofs, fallen trees, as well as interrupted energy lines.
The residents of the village also felt the severe effects of storms: White, Gorzewo, Klusek and Kazimierzów. The yards, gardens and houses were devastated by strong wind and heavy rainfall.
Polish storm hunters also informed about the development of two strong supercells, which brought a hail with a diameter of up to 4 cm – among others in the Ciechanów and Sypniew region.
Podkarpackie. Storms, downpours and hail
According to storms monitoring profiles, but also residents in the afternoon violent storms appeared in the north, west and south of Poland. The dangerous storm front arrived in Podkarpackie. Around 16 heavy rainfall was reported, places with a intensity of 10-13 mm per 10 minutes, as well as hail rainfall with a diameter of about 3 cm.
Weather warnings almost all over the country
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued on Thursday and at night from Thursday and Friday’s warnings 1 and 2. Warnings 1 degree apply, among others in the province Warmian-Masurian, Pomeranian, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, parts of Greater Poland, Lubuskie and in the eastern Podlasie. In these regions, storms may be accompanied by rainfall up to 30 mm and wind gusts reaching 80 km/h. There may be a hail in places.
In turn, warnings The 2nd degree was issued for the following voivodships: Lesser Poland, South Silesia, Świętokrzyskie and East Podkarpacie. IMGW informs about possible heavy rainfall – up to 35 mm, locally up to 40 mm – and winds up to 90 km/h. A large hail is also forecast.
The warnings are to apply until Friday in the morning, and in the case of Podkarpacie – until 18:00.
RCB calls for caution
The Government Security Center also published alerts in force on June 5 and 6. They concern the areas of the following voivodships: Lesser Poland, Śląskie and Świętokrzyskie. RCB warns against storms with very strong wind and downpours. He appeals to the residents to secure property, prepare for possible intervals in power supply and the risk of local flooding.
