At 5 pm, the authorities found that, given the previously unprecedented demand for the electronic online voter registration service, the defense system has worked to block the register.

At the start of the polling stations, the amount of demand was significantly higher than in the previous days. Subject to security procedures, access to the system until the circumstances were clarified, explained Vaivars.

After accessing requests and receiving confirmation from the National Agency for Digital Development (VDAA) that access requests were legitimate, access was restored.

As a result, voters were able to take part in the election in the usual mode without using registration envelopes. From 5:30 pm, the districts worked in the usual mode.

Meanwhile, LETA knows that tonight’s election information system, which enters data, among voter activity. In the polling stations, this problem was found around 8pm when the data had to be started. After a while, the system left the operation.

LETA has already reported that on Wednesday evening, the electronic online voter register was temporarily not working, which stopped the work of municipal polling stations. The Central Election Commission spokesman Vaivars had stated that an external threat to the electoral system had been detected.

Also on the first day of the previous ballment, the municipal election process faced the problems of information technology systems on June 2 – then the electoral commissions had difficulty submitting data on activity as the electoral system was disrupted.

In the two previous voting days, 3.51% of voters voted in the Latvian municipal elections.
