Explanation of the « Employer » Definition Regulation from OHS BIR: We are ready to contribute to the process – Cyprus Newspaper

The Association of Occupational Health and Safety Experts (OHS-BİR) made a statement regarding the new regulation regarding the definition of “employer olan which is foreseen in the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 35/2008 and emphasized that they carefully evaluate the change in the process of the law and that they should take part in the technical committees.

In a statement made by Erkay Özgör, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OHS, the employer’s definition of employer not only the employer’s obligations, but also the occupational health and safety (OHS) experts serving workplaces directly affect the authority and responsibility areas.

In the statement, it was stated that each regulation will directly determine how OHS experts will carry out their duties and warned that the definition is open to different interpretations in its current form and that this situation could prepare the ground for abuse in practice. The statement also stated that such uncertainties may weaken the effectiveness of occupational health and safety services.

OHS-Bir stated that they would forward the official letter containing their opinions and suggestions to the Presidency of the Republican Assembly and that they are ready to contribute to the process.
