Expenditures at the Grand Ducal Court continue to rise

At first glance, the result is much better than expected: 19,389,511 euros and 66 cents the Maison du Grand-DUC cost taxpayers last year. According to the annual report 2024, which was published on Monday afternoon, the result is almost 13 percent below the approach.

For 2024, far more than 22 million euros were estimated. The Grand Ducal Court has made it even better than in the two previous years, where the result was also always better than expected in the end, but was much closer to the approach.

The thickest item: the personnel expenses

However, these figures cannot hide the fact that expenses for the court rose again last year – from 15.7 million euros in 2022 and 18.6 million in 2023 to just under 19.4 million euros. The largest cost drivers are still the personnel expenses that have increased by almost 8 percent to more than 13.6 million euros compared to the previous year.

The fact that the expenditure increases from year to year, but at the same time the result is always better than expected, it is because in the financial year 2024 again in almost all posts was again very conservative.

And also for the report that will be published in the coming year has already been provided accordingly. With almost all items, whether personnel expenses, repair costs or fleet, the approach for 2025 lies above the expenses of the past year. In other words, areas in which few expenditure is expected for the current year than in 2024, there are almost no one.

Millions of investments in the walls

The biggest batze according to the personnel costs is the planned expenditure for structural security measures at Berg Castle, the residence of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, and Fischbach Castle, where her family is still alive with his family. More than 3.6 million euros are planned for this.

Originally, an investment in an even higher size was already planned for 2024. However, only a good 424,000 euros were invested or billed of the more than 4.6 million euros that were estimated last year.

A little more content for the representatives

The « salaries » for Grand Duke and Erbgrös duke have also risen, in total a little more than 6 percent to just under 814,000 euros. In contrast to the reports of previous years, the current report is no longer shown the salaries for Henri and Guillaume separately, but are summarized. For comparison: In the household for 2023, the representation costs for the head of the state were just over 523,000 euros and that for the hereditary duke at just under 218,000 euros.
