Expected weather expected: can I already swim in the sea?

From Sunday it is over with the nice weather. But first we can still enjoy a radiant spring day with temperatures above 20 degrees on Saturday. A mass of people are expected by the sea and some will undoubtedly not be able to resist the call of the North Sea. But is that allowed, already swimming?
The seawater in Ostend was 8.7 degrees on Friday. That’s pretty fresh to swim in. Yet some will not be able to keep going into the water. But that’s not a good idea. Moreover, it is forbidden, it sounds with different police zones on the coast. There are no rescuers yet, confirms coasting service IKWV. They are there at the earliest at the beginning of May and then only in a few places.
« The coastal municipalities even decide when they manage the savior posts. And that is not yet the case, even though we are in the middle of the Easter holidays. The water is just too cold and it is too dangerous to swim now. »
Only from 1 May are the first rescuers in post in a number of zones. That is among other things in Knokke-Heist, other coastal municipalities wait a little longer.
No Rescuers
« Pootjebaden is still allowed this weekend, but that is not much deeper than that is not allowed, » says coasting service IKWV.
And who is going to swim? It risks a gas fine. « Even if we are not intended to actively check and verbalize. We will address people and ask people to get out of the water. For their own safety. The sea is not a swimming pool and can be very insidious. Anyone who is hard -leather and ignores our warnings, risk a gas fine that can rise to 250 euros or even more, » say police services say.

From Sunday it will be less beautiful again and the urge to swim in the sea with most of them will be over.
Recreational domains
Anyone who wants to take a fresh dip in the open air on Saturday can go to one of the many recreational domains. Although it is best to check the website to see if they are already open and whether they can swim. Recreation domain De Nekker in Mechelen, for example, is open. Swimming is only allowed with a green flag.
