Amendments to both the Advertising Law and the Gambling and Lotteries Law have come to the Saeima Budget and Finance (Tax) Commission since September last year. Currently, this package of bills (amendments to the Gambling and Lotteries Act are in a single package with the advertising law, as it is both necessary to approve the amendments to, for example, to instruct gambling restrictions on supervision of the Lottery and Gambling Supervision Inspectorate and to make other amendments).

Signe Birne, Head of the Lotteries and Gambling Supervision Inspectorate, estimates that the most important discussions are foreseen on the role of municipalities in decision -making and the final version of gambling advertising conditions. For advertising banners recently, the Inspectorate receives a lot of questions from advertising agencies on planned environmental advertising in Riga. Consequently, the work of the Saeima Budget Commission with amendments to the Gambling and Lotteries Act will be one of the priorities of the Inspectorate this year. It should be noted that, overall, the bills have a wide range of amendments proposed, including a limit to the availability of lotteries from the age of 18. The law currently does not provide for age restrictions on persons wishing to participate in lotteries (unlike gambling and interactive lottery).
