Exitpoll: less than a percentage point difference between Polish candidates presidential elections
According to the first results of the second round of the Polish presidential election, the results of the two candidates are very close together: Rafal Trzaskowski, confidant of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, would receive 50.3 percent of the votes, the National-Conservative Karol Nawrocki 49.7 percent.
Immediately after the exit poll, Trzaskowski felt enough confidence to call out the victory. « I am the president of all Poles, I will be your president, » he said during a meeting of his party in Warsaw. « The whole of Poland has won. » Although his victory speech was somewhat modest, given the results of the Exitpoll.
His wife Malgorzata Trzaskowska, who was also on stage, said she was « close to a heart attack. » Trzaskowski already focused on all the people who did not vote for him in the polarized Poles: « I reach my hand to everyone who did not vote for me. »
Nawrocki was not sure of Trzaskowski’s victory at his election meeting. He said « we’ll win tonight. » Then he started the attack. « They lie, lie, lie and lie. And you stood behind me, » he told his supporters. « Tomorrow morning Poland will be Waker with President Karol Nawrocki, » said Nawrocki. « We cannot allow the Donald Tusk government to get a monopoly on power. A government that is bad. That’s why we have to win and that will happen. »
Also first round exciting
It has become clear in recent weeks that it would be a neck-and-neck race. During the first election round, two weeks ago, Trzaskowski received 31 percent of the votes and Nawrocki 29 percent. Polls already predicted that the results of the second voting round would be close together.
Rafal Trzaskowski (53) is mayor of Warsaw and was supported during his campaign by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his party Citizen Platform (KO). Tusks Coalition came to power at the end of 2023, but promised reforms was hard for each other: the Polish president can veto and the current president, Andrzej Duda, made frequent use of that right. Duda is a loyalist of justice and justice (PIS), the political opponent of KO, who was in power between 2015 and 2023.
Historian and museum director Karol Nawrocki (42) was later pushed forward by the National-Conservative Pis. US President Donald Trump hopes that Nawrocki will win – the American Minister of Interior Security Kristi spoke during an international conference of Conservatives (CPAC) in Rzeszów, Poland, and Trzaskowski called an « absolute wreck as leader ». Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also supports Nawrocki.
