Exceptionally dry spring months: the second lowest precipitation amount ever


The last three spring months were much drier than average. There was only 54.4 mm precipitation in Uccle, by far the lowest precipitation amount for this season for the current reference period. That amount of precipitation fell on twenty days (normal: 43.5 days), a new absolute record. The previous record was 23 days (1880, 2020 and 2022). Most precipitation fell in Uccle on 27 May (daily total of 14.3 mm). In the last spring there were no precipitation quantities of at least 40 mm anywhere.

The temperatures were also above the normal values ​​most of spring. The average temperature of the spring months in Uccle is 11.8 degrees Celsius (normally 10.5 degrees). That is the third highest value since the start of the measurements in 1833. The average maximum temperature (16.9 degrees) is also good for the third highest value since the start of those observations in 1892.

The three spring months were also much sunnier in Uccle than average. March and April were the third sunny month before the current reference period (averages for the period 1991-2020) and May was also very sunny. In total, with more than 688 hours of sunshine it was the third sunny spring since the start of the observations.

The RMI registered thirteen thirteen thirteen days last spring, an equalization of the record for the current reference period. In Uccle, the record of the lowest average wind speed was also matched (3.2 m/s).
