In an atmosphere of increased security measures, the Moscow Garrison Military Court began to consider the criminal case of the former Water fighter from Chechnya, a retired warrant officer Tarkhan Eldukaev. Three defenders of the defendant were opposed by a team of three prosecutors. It was expected that they would perform with an introductory word, after which the defendant and his lawyers will express their attitude to the charges. However, even before the jury was called into the hall, the participation of which the defendant, prosecutor Anna Melnikova insisted in the case (last year she took first place at the All -Russian competition of state prosecutors) petitioned for the proceedings in closed mode. She noted that the defendant is charged with three particularly serious crimes, while not all accomplices are established yet. The prosecutor added that a number of witnesses are under state protection, their data is classified, and the media “often distort” the circumstances of the criminal case.
