Ewa P. heard a murder sentence. Two children were killed
The decision was made on April 3, 2025. As German websites informed « Süddeutsche Zeitung« and » Stern « , the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) did not find any procedural or legal errors. The appeal lodged by defense was dismissed. Thus, the life sentence for Ewa P. became final. The second accused, Marco S., heard the penalty of 4 years in prison – and she was also maintained.

This is an unprecedented matter. A road accident that occurred in February 2022 in Barsinghausen was treated as a murder. And all because of the circumstances. It was established that Ewa P., a Polish woman living in Germany, arranged an illegal race. An ordinary road, with a limit to 70 km per hour, was rushing Audi at a speed of 180 km per hour. During the maneuver she hit the car of the family. Two small boys were killed – brothers aged 2 and 6. Their parents were injured.
Several rulings were made in this case, but the most important were announced on July 24, 2024 in the District Court in Hanover. The judges decided that the Polish woman, guided by bravado and recklessness, committed murder with a possible intention. She herself denied that she competed on the road. She only claimed that she was in a hurry to her children.
She had family problems, but the court didn’t care
During the process, the defense tried to show the context – Ewa P.’s difficult life situation talked about her lonely motherhood, problems with daughters and a lack of support from her partner. The accused herself was depicted as an overloaded woman, but full of good will.
However, there were also critical voices from its environment. Friends from work openly talked about her bravado behind the wheel and a disregarding approach to the rules. Ewa even had the nickname « Schumi » – from Michael Schumacher, Master of Formula 1. Many people admitted that they were afraid that her driving style would sooner or later lead to a tragedy.
The court did not take into account the difficult personal situation of the Polish woman. According to « Süddeutsche Zeitung », the judges focused on suffering the family of victims who lost two little boys. The judge had the faces of parents « throughout the whole process » who were unable to stop tears.
The case is closed. But is it definitely?
From April 3, 2025, the judgment is final. Ewa P. is currently in prison for women in Vecht, in central Germany. It has been there for many months, it was detained before the trial. The Polish woman lived in Germany, but previously lived in Poland.
Could she apply for a transfer to Poland now? As he explained earlier to « Fakt » known Carnival, prof. Piotr Kruszyński, Such a scenario is theoretically possible, but very difficult. – The Polish court could try to adapt the judgment to Polish law, but would be bound by a German judgment. And in our country it has not happened yet that the traffic accident was treated as a murder – says the lawyer.
