Evros: ‘Died’ migrant trafficking circuit

Police officers from the Thessaloniki Directorate of Aliens, in collaboration with the European Migrant Smuggling Center of Europol, dismissed the criminal organization that made illegal trafficking of immigrants.

How did the circuit work
According to ELAS, « the criminal organization with operational structured and constant action, whose members, with distinct roles, are involved in cases of promotion of irregular migrants in the Greek territory from the Greek -Turkish border, against monetary remuneration.
They are nine (9) people (3 nationals – 6 foreigners), aged 29 to 72 years, of whom the five were arrested in the context of a large -scale police operation, which took place at the same time in areas of the prefectures of Thessaloniki, Kozani and Attica, while two other members of the Greek.
A case file was filed against the above for criminal organization, transfer – promotion of irregular aliens within the country by speculative country and from which there was a risk of life. In addition, the data of two other aliens, involved in the same case and are enclosed in a detention facility in the country, were identified.
According to the police investigation, this organization was active in the promotion, using pick-up vehicles (4 × 4), foreigners from the Greek-Turkish border within the country, with the risk of life-transferred immigrants.
The main feature of her methodology was the finding of a car. vehicles coming from foreign countries, mainly from Bulgaria, in order to perform the transport of illegal foreigners from the Evros region to inland.
Earnings of 500,000 euros
As for the business part of the traffic, it was found that the newcomers were received from riverside areas of the prefecture of Evros and led – landed in the wider area of Thessaloniki.
During the many months of research, it was found that in the context of the action the organization carried out at least eight illegal transport, and in any case averaged 8 to 14 foreigners, with the estimated illegal economic benefit of approximately EUR 500,000.
In the context of the preliminary investigation and the coordinated operation held yesterday, in which investigations were carried out in seven houses and one in a warehouse – a workshop, seized:
- (7) IXF Pick-up vehicles (4 × 4), which had been acquired by the organization to be used as means of transport of illegal immigrants,
- (6) IXE vehicles,
- Multitude of telephone and electronic media while
- At the home of one of the arrested members of the circuit, 1570 packs of cigarettes and 1079 tobacco packages were found and confiscated, which did not bring the special Greek State Tax and formed a free case file for violating the Customs Code.
The detainees will be taken to the competent judicial authorities. «
