Europe’s agriculture makes a surplus of 39.2 billion euros

In 2024, the EU exported agricultural products worth 234.1 billion euros and imported 194.9 billion euros, which resulted in a surplus of 39.2 billion euros. The Statistikamt Eurostat announced this on Tuesday. Compared to 2023, both exports and imports increased by 2.8 percent or 6.7 percent in the year.

In 2023, the EU had achieved a record surplus of 70 billion euros in foreign trade products with products from the agricultural and nutritional economy.

Between 2014 and 2024, the EU agricultural trade grew by 59.0 percent, with exports increased by 58.0 percent and imports of 60.2 percent, which corresponds to an average annual growth of 4.7 percent in exports and 4.8 percent in imports.

The United Kingdom: most important trading partner

In 2024, the United Kingdom was the most important partner for the exports of agricultural products, followed by the United States (12.8 percent or 30.1 billion euros), Switzerland (5.4 percent or 12.6 billion euros) and China (5.3 percent or 12.3 billion euros).

Most EU imports came from Brazil (8.8 percent; 17.1 billion euros), the United Kingdom (8.5 percent; 16.6 billion euros), Ukraine (6.7 percent; 13.1 billion euros) and the United States (6.1 percent; 12.0 billion euros).
