Europe not to be a permanent vassal of the US
US Vice -President JD Vance held a new lesson to Europe. Europe is « our ally », but it cannot be a « permanent vassal » of the United States for its Security and Trade, JD Vance said on Tuesday, in an interview with the British news site UNHD, AFP reports.
« We consider Europe our ally. We want only an alliance in which Europeans are a little more independent, and our commercial and security relations will reflect this, » said JD Vance, who repeatedly criticized European leaders.
« It is not good for Europe, and it is not in the interest of America, that Europe is a permanent vassal of the United States in terms of security, » he insisted.
Since his return to the White House, Donald Trump has asked Europeans to spend more for his own defense and has harshly criticized the European Union, which he accuses of adopting an unfair trade policy.
JD Vance repeatedly criticized European leaders, saying in his February speech in Munich that they do not fight sufficiently against immigration and that freedom of expression is threatened in Europe.
« The reality is that-it is brutal to say, but it is true-the whole European security infrastructure has been, since I know myself, subsidized by the United States, » said JD Vance in an interview with the British news site.
With the exception of France, the United Kingdom and Poland, he said, « most European states do not have an army capable of ensuring a reasonable defense. »
At the beginning of March, he shocked Europeans saying that for Ukraine, the conclusion of an economic agreement with the United States would be « a security guarantee than 20,000 soldiers in any country that has not waged a war of 30 or 40. »
« I don’t think a more independent Europe is a bad thing for the United States, » he insisted, estimating that a stronger Europe could have avoided the « strategic disaster » of the war launched in 2003 by a US coalition.
Referring to negotiations between London and Washington for a bilateral economic agreement, the US Vice-President said that there are « high chances » for them to lead to an « excellent agreement, which is in the interest of both countries. »
