EU « Select the bag », Albania takes the first installment
Before knocking on the doors of the European Union, Albania must be ready. For a « yes » instead of a « non-jet », Albania and Albanians should initially be economically integrated. In this regard, it is the plan for the growth of the Western Balkans that is expected to give the country « one hand ». The European Union has given the « green light » to the first € 64.5 million installment for Albania, of which 30 million are loans and 34.5 million grants.
« So, I believe this is another side, very clear that we are moving rapidly according to the pace determined by the negotiations, to join the EU, » Rama said. Albania will be able to benefit up to 1 billion euros of grants and credit to fund projects from the so -called « New Western Balkan Growth Plan ».
« The growth plan helps Albania to achieve this goal and bring the Albanian economy to that of the European Union before Albania becomes a member. We are supporting Albania to consolidate its rule of law, develop its infrastructure, its green economy, its human capital and private business », Silvio Gonzato.
But in return, Albania must continue reforms. From the business climate, to the human capital, the energy along with the digital transition and essentially the rule of law … are these five directions in which reforms are planned to extend in the next three years.
« We fully understand the size of this historical opportunity, as well as future commitments, and we are energetically motivated and prepared to continue the diligent reform and fulfillment of the criteria for Albania’s membership in the European Union. »
Based on the « Commission » document, the six Western Balkan countries will have 6 billion euros available, 2 of which grants and 4 loans. The European Union estimates that with making this money available, countries in the region can boost their economies by up to 10 percent, absorbing even more foreign investment.
